GESI Giga Batteries and Mobility House form a joint venture to develop and finance up to 8 GW of battery storage across Europe

GESI Giga Batteries and Mobility House established a joint venture on 26 June 2026 to develop, finance, and market large-scale battery storage systems across Europe, with a combined target of 8 gigawatts of capacity.

The partnership brings together distinct capabilities. GESI contributes project development experience, while Mobility House adds planning, marketing, and financing expertise across complex energy infrastructure. Neither company has publicly disclosed the financial terms of the arrangement.

Walter Raizner, GESI Chairman and CEO, framed the deal in terms of the broader clean energy agenda. "Mobility House is an ideal partner for our storage projects, with which we want to accelerate the energy transition and save millions of tons of CO2," he said.

Battery storage has become a focal point for European energy policy as renewable generation rises and grid operators face growing pressure to manage intermittency. Developers and utilities have struggled to secure financing structures capable of supporting projects at scale, a constraint that has slowed deployment relative to capacity targets set by the European Commission.

An 8-gigawatt ambition places the joint venture among the larger announced storage programmes on the continent. Whether that figure represents a firm pipeline or an outer ceiling for the partnership's activities was not specified in the companies' announcement.

Regulatory conditions across European markets remain uneven. Grid connection timelines, subsidy frameworks, and permitting rules vary considerably by country, factors that will shape how quickly the venture can move projects from development to construction.
